HOUSTON - Freshman Kayla Alf-Huynh posted an NCAA B qualifying time in the 100 back and the Tulane University swimming and diving team posted five lifetime and seven season-best times in day three of the 2010 Conference USA Championship Friday at the University of Houston Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
The Green Wave scored a team-best 71 points on the day to bring their three-day total to 187. "The girls have been outstanding in finals," Tulane head swimming and diving coach Lena Guarriello said. "Kayla's 100 back was the highlight of the evening as she repeated an NCAA B qualifying performance.
"I'm looking forward to a strong final day of competition. Our 200's are great events for us and we've got three athletes entered in the mile. I'm excited to see Kylie Kastes put up a strong 100 as her freestyle has been the fastest she has ever swum at this meet."
Alf-Huynh finished second in the 100 back with a time of 55.49 to post her second All-Conference USA honor in as many days. Yesterday, she was third in the 50 free, and Alf-Huynh's 55.43 in the preliminaries was a lifetime best. She now has a chance to qualify for the NCAA meet on March 18-20 in West Lafayette, Ind.
