IRVINE, Calif. - Shaye Wali and Rodrigo Rappaccioli each won their singles matches for the Tulane men's tennis team, but it was not enough as Green Wave fell to UC Irvine, 6-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The match was the third and final on Tulane's (3-11) West Coast road trip.
The victory for Wali snapped a personal five match losing streak. The sophomore defeated UC Irvine's (13-7) Zac Tsai, 7-6, 6-3, on court one.
"It was nice to see Shaye get back on track today," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "He did a lot of good things to beat a very strong player. Throughout this road trip we've had our points come from several different guys, so we know that we can win at different positions in the lineup, it's just a matter of putting them all together at one time to give ourselves the best opportunity to win."
Rappaccioli earned Tulane's other point with a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Khunpol Issara on court four.
All four singles points for the Anteaters came in straight set decisions and UCI earned the doubles point with a sweep as well.
Tulane returns to action Thursday with the start of the Conference USA Showdown at the Goldring Tennis Center. The Green Wave will face East Carolina on Thursday at Noon, Southern Miss on Friday at Noon and UAB on Saturday at Noon. USM and UAB will kick things off on Thursday at 9 a.m., while ECU and UAB will play on Friday at 9 a.m. and ECU and USM will battle at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
