NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team completed its first regular season since 2005 on Sunday afternoon, but the Green Wave were not able to come away with a victory, falling to Marquette, 6-1, in a dual match at the Goldring Tennis Center.
"Marquette played great today," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "They have a really solid team all the way through and made it tough on us."
Adam Bernstein's singles victory on court four was Tulane's (3-16) bright spot. Bernstein snapped a personal two-match losing skid with a straight sets win over MU's (16-4) Otavio Perim, 6-3, 7-5.
"Adam did a fantastic job," Booras said. "He came out today with a positive attitude and was able to get the job done."
Marquette opened the match with a come-from-behind win in doubles. The Green Wave held a lead on both courts one and two before the Golden Eagles fought back to take the victory on court one and also won on court three.
The pair of Shaye Wali and Coby Kramer-Galinkoff held a 6-4 lead over Mark Rutherford and Jonathan Schwerin on court one before falling 8-6. Court three was taken by MU's pair of Perim and Jose Manuel Munoz , 9-7, over Joe Young and Trevor Getz.
"Our guys fought hard in the doubles," Booras added. "We were up a few breaks in each of the matches and put ourselves in a position to win and they just fought hard and never gave up. That kind of set the tone for the singles, but we still did a good job on a couple of the courts."
Bernstein and Rodrigo Rappaccioli held a 7-3 lead on court two over Dusan Medan and Jacob Straus and were able to hold on for the 8-6 victory.
"We are moving in the right direction," Booras said. "We have two weeks to get things worked out before the conference tournament. We just need to keep our heads up and keep working hard."
The Green Wave will be off until the Conference USA Championships April 22-25 in Houston at the Rice.
