NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane track and field program have a National Champion on their hands, as sophomore Ana Ruzevic captured the javelin event at the Croatian National Championships. After a solid sophomore season that ended at the NCAA National Championships, Ruzevic added to her resume with a winning toss of 48.16 at the Kantrida Stadium in Rijeka, Croatia.
The championship is an open registration event and competitors must be a citizen of Croatia to participate, with people ranging from age 13 to veteran athletes. Her toss of 48.16 was her third longest toss this calendar year, just behind her throws from the NCAA Regional and Championships. The Split, Croatia native will enter her junior season ranked fourth on the all-time javelin list (49.50), just 0.46 meters away from the third spot on the tally.
In 2010, Ruzevic won four individual titles in the javelin and placed among the top-ten in every competition. She closed the season with personal best throws in her each of her final two meets. She owned the team's top-ten throws in the javelin and at the NCAA National Meet moved ahead of Nicholls State's Leslie Bourgeois as the longest toss in the state of Louisiana on the year. Ruzevic was an All-Louisiana selection and now adds the Croatian National Championship title to her resume.
