HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- All nine Tulane men's tennis players recorded at least one singles victory and the Green Wave swept the doubles matches Saturday in the first day of the Southern Miss Invitational played at Southern Miss Tennis Courts.
"We had a pretty good day overall today," head coach Mark Booras said. "The conditions were very tough with the strength of our opponents and the extreme heat, but in general we dealt with it well."
Tulane opened the day with singles matches against Lamar and Idan Mark, Joe Young, Shaye Wali, Rodrigo Rappaccioli, Takuma Ohashi and Coby Kramer-Golinkoff each recorded wins.
Mark was the only none straight sets winner, having to use three sets to upend Lamar's Rob Lee, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6.
"Idan had a good day today in his debut for Tulane," Booras said. "His first match back went all the way to 7-6 in the third and he did a great job of battling to the end and pulling out his first victory for the Green Wave."
Mark had to retire in the third set of his second singles match of the day against South Alabama's Romain Bocaert. Mark won the first set, dropped the second and then cramped up with a 3-2 lead in the third.
Adam Bernstein, Holger Norregaard and Etham Frankel picked up singles wins against South Alabama.
Tulane's doubles teams of Mark and Rappaccioli, Wali and Bernstein, Young and Nooregaard, Frankel and Kramer-Gilinkoff all won in matches with William Carey.
"We're looking forward to the opportunities that are in front of us tomorrow so we can continue to develop and build our team stronger," Booras concluded.
The Green Wave will face William Carey and Southern Miss in singles matches on Sunday to conclude the tournament.
