Tarrant Named C-USA Freshman of the Week

NEW ORLEANS - Ricky Tarrant, a guard for the Tulane men's basketball team, was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Tarrant averaged 10.3 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds in Tulane's four wins during the week, including posting a career-high 15 points in the victory over Alcorn State to open the Hoops for Hope Classic last Friday. He then returned the next night to add 13 points to the victory over New Orleans and dished out a career-best six assists in the tournament finale against San Diego on Sunday.
The Pleasant Grove, Ala., native began the week by scoring nine points on three 3-pointers and dished out five assists in his first road game at Navy on Tuesday. He also collected 16 assists and committed just five turnovers in 52 minutes of playing time during the week.
Tarrant is only the second Green Wave player to receive Freshman of the Week honors and the first since Jordan Callahan earned the award in 2010.
Tulane with a perfect 7-0 record is off to the program's best start since the 1991-92 season. The Green Wave host Southern Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT in Fogelman Arena.
