NEW ORLEANS - Fresh off claiming the Hoops for Hope Classic title with three wins in three days, the Tulane men's basketball team takes little time in returning to the court when they host Southern at 7 p.m. CT Wednesday in Fogelman Arena.
Wednesday's game for the Green Wave (7-0) will be the eighth in a 20 day period since the season opened and the fourth in the last six day after winning the Hoops for Hope Classic over the weekend. Tulane defeated Alcorn State, New Orleans and San Diego to win the championship.
Southern (2-4) will be playing its sixth straight road game after opening the season at home against Dillard on Nov. 11. The Jaguars have dropped four of the last five, including close losses at Providence and Northern Colorado.
"They have played a very tough schedule and are a really sound team," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "You can't expect to get turnovers and easy baskets against these guys. We have a great deal of respect for this team and know we have to bring our best game to the court."
The Jaguars, who are scoring 60.7 points per game, are led by Derick Beltran's 12.3 points per game, while Quinton Doggett is posting 10.5 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds a contest.
Tulane comes into the game averaging 74.0 point per game and is led by Josh Davis with 14.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per outing. Davis, who won the Hoops for Hope Classic MVP honors, leads the nation with six double doubles in seven games this season. Kendall Timmons is scoring 14.0 points a game, while Jordan Callahan is adding 11.3 points a game.
This will be the fifth meeting between the two schools. Tulane won the previous four contests, including a 68-65 win in Baton Rouge last season. The Green Wave is 3-0 against the Jaguars in Fogelman Arena where the teams have not met since 2003.
Tulane completes the homestand Saturday when Georgia Tech invades Fogelman Arena for a 1 p.m. CT tip. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports.
