NEW ORLEANS - With their perfect 8-0 record on the line, the Tulane men's basketball team hosts Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech in Fogelman Arena Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network (Ch. 315 with Cox in New Orleans) with Dave Ryan and Pete Gillen calling the action, and, as always, will be on the Tulane IMG Sports Network (WIST AM 690/104.9 FM locally) with Todd Graffagnini behind the mic.
The Green Wave (8-0) has won all six of the games in Fogelman Arena this season, including a 78-53 victory over Southern on Wednesday night. Kendall Timmons led the way in the victory with 21 points, while Jordan Callahan added 15.
Overall Timmons leads Tulane with 14.9 points per game, while Josh Davis is posting 14.4 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest. Callahan is adding 11.8 points per outing as well. The Green Wave as a team is shooting 46.0 percent from the floor and is posting 74.5 points per game.
"I'm proud of our team in how hard they have worked and how they have concentrated in practice to get better," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We know we have a lot of things to work on and we are very pleased with the effort. It is still very early and it is a process of trying to get better each day."
The Yellow Jackets (4-3) are coming off a 76-60 loss to Northwestern on Tuesday night in Philips Arena in Atlanta.
Junior forward Glen Rice, Jr., leads Georgia Tech with 15.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, but missed the first three games due to suspension. Mfon Udofia, a junior guard, is also in double figures with 12.3 points per game, while Kammeon Holsey, a sophomore forward, is scoring 11.0 a game. As a team the Yellow Jackets shot 46.8 percent from the floor and average 67.1 points a game.
"I've known Brian Gregory for a long time and he does a great job," Conroy added. "His team has a lot of weapons and has played a very good schedule. They will really challenge us because of their size and ability to score at different positions."
This will be the 68th meeting between the two former Southeastern Conference and Metro Conference members. Georgia Tech owns a slight 35-32 series lead, but Tulane has won 21 of the 32 meetings in New Orleans. The teams have only met three times since parting conference ties in 1978 and not since an 80-66 Green Wave win in Fogelman on Jan. 2, 2003.
Tickets are still available for the game and the first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a free rally towel. Partial season ticket packages are also still available for as low as $100, and single game tickets start as low as $5 for youth and $10 for adults.
