NEW ORLEANS - Despite Idan Mark's seventh singles victory of the spring season, the Tulane men's tennis could not overcome Memphis in a Conference USA dual match on Thursday afternoon, falling 6-1, at the Goldring Tennis Center.
Mark, the 89th-ranked singles player in the country, led Tulane (5-6, 0-3 C-USA) with his 7-6, 6-3, victory over Memphis' (9-5, 2-3 C-USA) David O'Hare on court one. Mark also paired with Joe Young to earn an 8-5 doubles victory over UM's David Henry and Jordan Smith.
The doubles win was not enough for the Green Wave either as Memphis came back to earn the point with victories on courts two and three.
The Tigers secured the win when Joe Salisbury defeated Young, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, on court two.
"These tough matches are only going to make us stronger," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Our guys are learning a lot about discipline through these experiences. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it will yield the fruits that these guys didn't know they had. We will keep working toward that time."
Tulane's Shaye Wali and Holger Norregaard each took their singles matches to three sets before falling. Wali took his first set, 6-3, over Leon Nasemann on court three, but couldn't hang on for the win, losing the last two sets, 7-6, 6-2. Norregaard also won his first set, 6-3, over John Taylor on court six, but Taylor earned the win with 6-1 and 6-2 victories in the final two sets.
Tulane will look to rebound Saturday when they host Radford in the non-conference dual match at 1 p.m. CST at the Goldring Tennis Center.
