NEW ORLEANS - Joe Young and Adam Bernstein earned victories in singles for the Tulane men's tennis team, but the Green Wave could not overcome Radford, falling 5-2, in a non-conference dual match on Saturday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
Young improved his singles record to 7-5 this spring with a 6-1, 7-5, win over Nicholas Sayer on court two for the Green Wave (5-7), while Bernstein improved to 3-3 this spring with a 7-5, 6-4, victory over Paul Boslet on court six.
"What can I say? We fought hard like we were supposed to," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Radford is a team with a lot of experience and have a lot of years under their belt. We were playing two men down today and sometimes that happens. I challenged the guys today to play a complete match from start to finish and they did. Radford was just a little tougher and prevailed."
Radford (10-3) opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins on courts two and three after the Tulane duo of Idan Mark and Young earned an 8-4 win on court one over Ivan Salec and Thomas Dehaen.
The Highlanders took a 3-0 lead in the match after quick singles wins on court four and court three. The Young and Bernstein wins helped Tulane climb back into the match, but a battle of ranked opponents on court one earned the clinching point for Radford.
Salec, the 67th-ranked singles player in the nation, outlasted Tulane's Mark, the 89th-ranked player, 6-4, 6-4, on court one for earned the fourth and deciding point for the Highlanders.
Tulane will travel to Dallas, Texas, next Sunday to face SMU in a Conference USA dual match at noon CST.
