NEW ORLEANS - The postseason is always the goal for the Tulane track and field program and on the first weekend in April, a postseason-like atmosphere will great a handful of Green Wave student-athletes at the Florida Relays. Most of the contingent that head coach Eric Peterson will take to Gainesville, Fla. will compete on Friday, while the Sprint Medley Relay team and one field event will be contested on Saturday.
Over the weekend, Zandria Debowles will be the busiest competitor with two events during the program on Friday. The senior will start things off with the 400-meter hurdles and then head over to the high jump pit to compete in that event. DeBowles set a new career-best mark in the 400 hurdles last weekend at the LSU Relays when she covered that distance in 59.12 to rank third in school history in the event. In the high jump, DeBowles ranks fourth in school history in the event with a 1.70-meter clearance. Her 400-meter hurdle time ranks eighth among the East region competitors and she sits 22nd in the East region in the high jump entering the weekend.
Ana Ruzevic enters the weekend with the top javelin mark in the East region after she posted a school-record toss of 51.37-meters at the Tulane team challenge. The junior, who has been battling injury, will compete against three of the top-25 in the event this weekend at the Florida Relays and will look to win her third consecutive javelin title this season.
Kasey Rodgers and Tiffany George will both set into the starting blocks in the 100-meter dash on Friday, while also competing in the Sprint Medley Relay on Saturday. Rodgers currently sits in fourth place among the NCAA East region with her time of 11.49 that she set last weekend at LSU, with that time sitting in third place on the All-Time Tulane lists. George is one of only four freshmen ranking among the top-25 in the 100-meter dash, posting a career-best time of 11.73 in the prelims of the LSU Relay.
Jamie Riles will run the 400-meter dash for the first time during the outdoor season on Friday evening, after competing in the 4x400-meter relay in two of the first three meets of the year. Last season, Riles won the Conference USA Outdoor 400-meter Championship with a time of 53.62-seconds and entered the season ranked fourth on Tulane's career top-ten list.
In the 1,500-meter run, senior Rebecca Coady will compete against a solid field and look to move into the top-50 in the East region in that event. Coady will compete in the first of two heats and try to improve upon her 4:41.11 showing at the Tulane Team Challenge from the season opening meet.
