NEW ORLEANS - For the fifth time in the last six matches the Tulane men's tennis team came away with a victory. This time the Green Wave made quick work of cross-town foe Xavier, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
Tulane (11-10) completed the regular season with a winning record and now has won three straight matches and five of the last six contests.
"I was really pleased with the way the guys started in singles," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "I challenged them to play complete match and take care of business and they did just that. Xavier fought really hard and our guys were hungry for the win to reach our goal of having a winning record. We got that and we are really excited about that. This also gives us that momentum going into next week's conference tournament."
The Green Wave opened the match with a sweep in doubles. The duo of Adam Bernstein and Takuma Ohashi won 8-1 on court three, while Rodrigo Rappaccioli and Shaye Wali won 8-4 on court two and Idan Mark and Joe Young earned an 8-5 victory on court one.
Wali's 6-0, 6-1, victory, his fifth straight, over Jonathan Aubrey on court five opened the scoring in singles play. Bernstein completed his 6-0, 6-1 win over Sean Richardson on court six moments later to put the Green Wave up 3-0 in the match.
Rappaccioli clinched the match for Tulane with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Amir Rahbar on court four.
Mark and Young also earned singles victories, while Radu Ionescu, playing in his final home match for the Green Wave, earned a 6-0, 7-6, victory on court three.
Tulane will begin the Conference USA Tournament April 21 in Tulsa, Okla. Seeding will be determined on Monday.
