NEW ORLEANS - A breakout junior season helped Kasey Rodgers move into the record books on the track and her work in the classroom earned her All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA, as the association announced the 2011 Al-Academic performers earlier this week.
The United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their All-Academic teams on Thursday and the junior sprinter was one of the record 663 student-athletes honored by the organization.
Rodgers wrote her name into the indoor and outdoor record books during the 2011 campaign, entering the schools top-ten in five event during the indoor and outdoor seasons. The Elk Grove, Calif. native enjoyed her best season on the track in 2010, placing fifth in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 60-meter dash at the Conference USA Championships.
Her time of 7.35-seconds in the 60-meter dash ranks her second on the school career list, while the 23.78-second effort in the 200-meter dash at the C-USA Championships sits as the second fastest mark in school history in the event. She led the team in both events this season and ranked among the national leaders in each race. Rodgers was among the national top-50 in both events, sitting 34th in the 60-meter dash and 41st at the 200-meter distance.
The outdoor campaign started with the same results as the indoor campaign had ended with, but shortly after the weather began to turn, Rodgers suffered an injury. In the four meets she competed in on the outdoor oval, Rodgers set new personal bests in the 100 and 200-meter dash events and helped the 4x100-meter relay team to the fourth fastest mark in Tulane history.
Her 100-meter dash time of 11.49-secodns at the LSU Relays sits fourth on the all-time charts and when she broke the tape in 23.95 in the 200-meter dash at the Louisiana Classics she posted the seventh fastest Green Wave time in school history. She set personal bests in all four individual events in which she competed in during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
In the classroom, the Business Marketing major posted a 3.656 GPA and was selected to the Conference USA Commissioners Honor Roll. A three-time member of the Tulane 3.0 Club, Rodgers has also been a member of the C-USA Commissioners Honor Roll in each of her three seasons on campus.
Adding to the honor is the fact that she is just the fourth Tulane student-athlete to earn the honor in track and field. Rodgers joins Jelena Jurlina, Helmi Leppanen and Lissie Mo as the only TU track and field athletes to earn All-Academic honors from teh USTFCCCA.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
