Men's Tennis Opens Fall at UNCW Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. - All 10 of the Tulane men's tennis team members will take to the courts this weekend as the 2011-12 season gets underway at the UNCW Fall Invitational at the new Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.
The field includes 60 players from host UNC Wilmington, Campbell, UNC Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion, South Carolina, VCU and William & Mary in addition to Tulane. The field will be broken up into four singles flights and two doubles flights. The first matches will take place Friday morning and will conclude Sunday.
"We're looking forward to getting our fall season under way," said Tulane head coach Mark Booras, who enters his third season. "This has traditionally been a great tournament, so we're glad to be a part of it this year."
Idan Mark, the 50th-ranked singles player in the nation by the ITA, leads the Green Wave. The junior and 2011 Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, is the No. 1 seed in the Flight A singles bracket and will face VCU's Alexis Heugas at 11:30 p.m. CDT Friday. Tulane junior Joe Young is also paired in Flight A and will face South Carolina's Kyle Koch at 11:30 a.m. CDT Friday.
Senior Shaye Wali received the No. 4 seed in Flight B singles bracket and opens at 1 p.m. CDT Friday against UNC Charlotte's Krysztof Kwasniewicz. Juniors Adam Bernstein and Rodrigo Rappaccioli also play in Flight B.
Freshman Cedric Rutsaert and sophomore Takuma Ohashi will complete in Flight C singles, while juniors Coby Kramer-Golinkoff and Etham Frenkel, and along with freshman Iain Sneddon play in Flight D singles.
The duo of Mark and Young, who posted an 8-3 doubles record last spring, received the No. 3 seed in the Flight A doubles bracket and are joined by the pair of Wali and Rappaccioli in the flight. The doubles team of Bernstein and Ohashi received the No. 4 seed in the Flight B doubles and will be joined by the duos of Frenkel and Sneddon and Rutsaert and Kramer-Golinkoff.
After this weekend, the Green Wave will return to action Sept. 30- Oct. 2 in Houston, Texas, at the Rice Invitational.
