NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's men's tennis splits up this weekend with a pair of players heading to Tulsa for the ITA All-American, while the rest of the team visits Houston for the Rice Fall Invitational.
Joe Young and Idan Mark will travel to Tulsa for the All-American, while the Rice Fall Invitational will feature players from LSU, Arkansas and host Rice and gets underway Friday morning.
"This weekend is a really big weekend for Tulane tennis with two events," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "It's big in lots of ways. One is we are trying to continue to move in the right direction and build off our two titles in Wilmington. The other is we've got some really stiff competition in Houston with Rice, LSU and Arkansas. All three are ranked in the top 40. It will be nice to see where we stand."
Tulane's Shaye Wali and Rodrigo Rappaccioli are in Flight A singles, while Takuma Ohashi and Etham Frenkel are in Flight B, Iain Sneddon and Coby Kramer-Golinkoff are in Flight C and Cedric Rutsaert and Adam Bernstein are in Flight D. The first round of the singles matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. CT Friday at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
Two doubles flights will also be played with the pair of Rutsaert and Sneddon and Wali and Rappaccioli competing in Flight A and the duos of Frenkel and Bernstein and Ohashi and Kramer -Golinkoff are in Flight B. Doubles matches begin at 10 a.m. Friday.
"The All-American is the top 64 players in the country and a chance to see where the top of our line-up stands in regards to the rest of the country," Booras added. "It will be a defining weekend for us. Our goal is to go in and compete hard and enjoy the challenges that are set before us and learn for the experiences."
Young opens the weekend in the pre-qualifying singles tournament that gets underway at 8 a.m. CT Saturday. Mark, the nation's No. 50th ranked player, will open singles play Sunday, while the duo will play doubles beginning Tuesday.
