
Volleyball Continues Road Swing Over The Weekend

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University volleyball team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 12, when the Green Wave travel to Dallas to take on Conference USA foe SMU at 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum. The contest is the third of a four-match road swing as Tulane will close out the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Tulsa.
The Green Wave head to Texas 4-14 on the year, 2-5 in C-USA play and looking to snap a two-match skid after dropping a four-set decision at Houston last Friday and a 3-0 sweep at Rice last Sunday. As a team, Tulane is averaging 12.25 kills, 11.66 assists, 14.75 digs and 1.70 blocks per set.
Tulane is hitting .187 (894 kills, 417 errors, 2553 attempts) on the season while allowing opponents to attack at a .234 clip (953k-359e-2541a). Green Wave opponents are averaging 13.05 kills, 12.08 assists, 14.74 digs and 2.37 blocks per set so far in 2012.
SMU enters Friday's match 6-13 on the year, 3-4 in C-USA play and winners of its last two matches after dowing UCF 3-1 and Southern Miss 3-0. As a team, the Mustangs are averaging 12.60 kills, 11.64 assists, 14.70 digs and 2.11 blocks per set.
Caroline Young leads the team with 3.27 kills per set while Olivia Bailey has a team-best 9.07 assists per frame. Susan Lewis leads the SMU defense with 3.59 digs per set and Maddie Lozano headlines the front-line "D" with 1.10 blocks per outing.
SMU is hitting .179 (882k-423e-2565a) for the year while allowing its opponents to hit .220 (884k-343e-2462a). Mustang opponents are averaging 12.63 kills, 11.84 assists, 15.26 digs and 2.56 blocks per set.
Tulsa, which will play host to UPEP on Friday at the Reynolds Center, enters the weekend with a 12-7 record and a perfect 5-0 mark in C-USA. Last weekend, the Golden Hurricane went the distance twice but came away with a pair of five-set road victories at Houston and Rice.
Three Tulsa players are averaging at least 2.2 kills per set with Tyler Henderson leading the way at 5.22 and the duo of Kellie Culbertson and Diana Silva following with respective averages of 2.82 and 2.28. Jordan Clampitt paces the Hurricane with 8.22 assists per stanza, Jessica Adams has a team-best 5.06 digs-per-set average, and Carly Boatwright leads the defense with 0.66 blocks per set.
Tulsa is hitting .204 (1029k-433e-2925a) for the year while allowing its opponents to hit .192 (846k-348e-2597a). Golden Hurricane opponents, meanwhile, are averaging 11.92 kills, 11.30 assists, 17.37 digs and 2.66 blocks per set.
After the two road matches, the Green Wave return to the Hertz Center on Oct. 19 when they play host to Rice.
