NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's men's tennis team put their three-match losing streak behind them on Tuesday afternoon with a convincing 6-1 victory over in-state foe Nicholls State at the Goldring Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (9-7, 2-3 C-USA), who had dropped the last three matches, came out with confidence against Nicholls State (7-8) to take the doubles point and proceed to win five singles matches in straight sets.
"Today was a great recovery by our guys," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Nicholls State was ranked in the top 65 earlier this year so this was another quality win for our program."
The Tulane duo of Idan Mark and Joe Young won for the seventh straight time with an 8-5 victory over NSU's Roy Knight and Palash Tiwari on court one for the deciding match in doubles. Shaye Wali and Rodrigo Rappaccioli got past Dmitry Kozionov and Shayann Vaezzadeh, 8-2, on court two for the other Tulane victory to earn the first point of the match.
Adam Bernstein's 6-0, 6-4, victory over Vaezzadeh on court four was the clinching match, giving the Green Wave the fourth point of the afternoon. Bernstein followed wins by Rappaccioli on court five and Takuma Ohashi on court six.
Mark and Wali also earned singles wins for Tulane.
"I liked how the guys came out focused and maintained that focus throughout the match to get the win in a decisive way," Booras added. "We had a great team effort up and down the courts today and are ready for another big weekend."
Tulane travels to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend for a pair of Conference USA matches. The Green Wave will face host UAB on Saturday at 1 p.m. Ct and East Carolina at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.
