Tulane Green Wave at South Alabama Invitational

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane track and field program will continue its regular season as it travels to compete in the South Alabama Invitational. The men's and women's squad will send a full contingent of student-athletes to the Jaguar Track as 16 men and 26 women will compete for the second time at the facility in Mobile, Ala.
Emmi Aguillard will look to continue her solid start to the 2012 season as one of three competitors Tulane in the 1,500 meter. The junior claimed the individual title at the Jaguar Invitational two weekends ago with a near-career best time of 4:49.32. Johanna Gretschel owns the team's top time of the year and set a personal-best at the LSU Relays with a time of 4:40.31.
In the field, Ana Ruzevic will look to take her fourth collegiate crown of the season when she takes to the runway in the javelin. The senior claimed the individual title at the Pepsi Florida Relays, LSU Relays and Jaguar Invitational, while finishing second at the Aztec Invitational. Her season-best throw of 51.32-meters is just five-one hundredths of the meter shy of her school record toss from 2011.
In the 800 meter, Jon Frano will run the distance for the second time in his career after opening the season with a 1:54.16 showing at the Aztec Invitational on March 16. It is the top time for the Green Wave in the event and is the ninth fastest time in school history.
The trio of Zandria Debowles, Tiffanie Smith and Candice St. Etienne will look to dominated the podium in the 400-meter hurdles. DeBowles has a season-best time of 60.77 and will look to return to form and cross the finish line with her first sub-60-second time of the year. Smith started competing in the event just this season and set her personal best in the lanes at the Jaguar Track on March 31 when she ran 63.22. St. Etienne posted her season-best time of 61.62 at the LSU Relays and is closing in on her career-best time of 61.31that came last season.
A trio of Green Wave participants will transition from the gridiron to the oval, with Xavier Rush and Justyn Shackleford running for the second time this season and Cedric Wilson taking to the collegiate lanes for the first time. Among football players that compete in track and field, Shackleford ranks third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.46 at the Jaguar Invitational on March 31. Rush and Wilson will each compete at the 100 and 200 meter distances on Saturday.
