New Orleans - The 32nd-ranked Tulane golf team was one of 72 squads selected to participate in the NCAA Division I Regionals and the Green Wave will begin its march toward the NCAA Championships as part of the NCAA East Regional field at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Penn., May 10-12, 2012.
Tulane is making its ninth appearance in the NCAA Regionals, including its eighth in the NCAA East Regional field, but its first since 2010. Last year, the Wave participated in the NCAA Central Region.
Since the program was re-instated in 2008-09, TU has participated in NCAA postseason play in each of the four seasons. Tulane has advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of its last two appearances in the NCAA East Region, including 2009 (Gainesville, Fla.) and 2010 (Greenville, N.C.).
"We are extremely excited to compete in our fourth straight NCAA Regional since the program returned in 2008," Tulane head coach Andrew Pratt said. "The field is very strong in the East and we know we will need to play solid golf to advance to NCAA Championships, but this group can definitely do it. At regionals it all comes down to who can control their emotions and who can play one shot at a time and I know this team will do that. We're excited and looking forward to the challenge."
The top eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regional sits will advance to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA East Regional features eight, Top-25 squads and 16 total teams are ranked among the nation's Top-50. Tulane joins UCF as the representatives from Conference USA at the East Regional, while Tulsa advanced to the West Regional in Denver, Colo.
The national championships will be held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., and will be hosted by Vanderbilt University, Nashville.
