NEW ORLEANS - For the second straight season, the Tulane volleyball program will host a pair of pre-conference tournaments and the 2012 schedule features 13 home matches along with 14 road tilts. Tulane will open the campaign on Friday, August 24 versus Nevada at the Fairfield Inn North Baylor Classic and the Olive and Blue will look to earn their third trip to the NCAA Tournament at the Conference USA Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa, from November 16-18.
The 2012 campaign will open on the road for the fifth straight season when the Green Wave travel to Waco, Texas to compete in the Fairfield Inn North Baylor Classic hosted by Baylor University. The opener is slated for Friday, August 24 against Nevada at the Ferrell Center, before playing two matches on Saturday, August 25 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and host Baylor. The next stop will be in Beaumont, Texas for the Lamar Tournament, where the Olive and Blue will play a trio of matches against regional opponents Louisiana Tech (8/31), Texas State (9/1) and host Lamar (9/1).
After six straight on the road, Tulane returns home to play nine of their next ten matches on their home court. The Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic kicks things off with a solid field of team. The tournament will be on the Uptown campus for the tenth time in the last 12 seasons and feature Mississippi State, Pittsburgh and Sam Houston State. The Green Wave will open with a match versus Mississippi State on Friday, September 7 before playing Pittsburgh and Sam Houston State on Saturday, September 8 to close out the tournament.
The final pre-conference tournament is named for the winningest head coach in Tulane history. The Kathy Trosclair Memorial will be hosted by the Green Wave for the 16th time in the last 22 years from September 13-15. On Thursday, September 13 Tulane will open the tournament versus UTEP, in a match that will also begin the Conference USA slate for both teams, before having Friday off. The Olive and Blue will face off with Binghamton and Baylor on Saturday, September 15.
The Kathy Trosclair Memorial closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule and Tulane will play 15 straight Conference USA matches, starting on September 21 at Southern Miss, to close out the season. Their final three home matches of September will be played at home as UCF (9/23), Memphis (9/28) and UAB (9/29) will all visit the Crescent City.
Five of the seven matches in the month of October will be played on the road, starting with a trip to Houston to face off with Rice and the University of the Houston. The Green Wave opens the month versus the Cougars in the Athletics/Alumni Center on Friday, October 5, while the Owls will welcome in TU for a match at Tudor Fieldhouse on Sunday, October 7. The team will rack-up the frequent flier miles during their next weekend jaunt when they play SMU (10/12) in Dallas, followed by a match at Tulsa (10/14).
Rice and Houston will make a return trip to New Orleans to mark the only two home contests of the month for the Green Wave. Rice will end the four-match road swing with a contest on Friday, October 14, before the Sunday, October 16 match versus Houston. The month ends with a trip to El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP for the second time on Sunday, October 28.
As the calendar turns to November, the Olive and Blue will play their final two home matches. The return trip from Tulsa and SMU will start the 11th month of the season, with the Golden Hurricane coming to town on Thursday, November 3 and the Mustangs making an appearance on Sunday, November 4. The regular season closes with the two longest trips of the season when the squad travels to Huntington, W.Va. for a match versus Marshall on Friday, November 9 and then heads to Greenville, N.C. on Sunday, November 11 to close out the regular season against East Carolina.
The Conference USA Tournament is back after a two-year hiatus and will be hosted from November 16-18 at the University of Tulsa's Donald W. Reynolds Center.
