Stockton Lands Trio of Georgia Signees
Nov 12, 2014 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - On the first day of the early signing period, Tulane women's basketball head coach Lisa Stockton announced the addition of three players for the 2015-16 season. Meredith Schulte (Braselton, Georgia), Tene Thompson (Powder Springs, Georgia), and Harlyn Wyatt (Atlanta, Georgia) all signed their national letters of intent Wednesday morning with the expectation of two more signees tomorrow.
A 6-0, shooting guard from Braselton, Georgia, Meredith Schulte was a four-year letter-winner at Mill Creek High School, where she took her squad to the Georgia 6A Elite Eight in 2011-12 and the state tournament just this past spring. Also during the 2013-14 season, Schulte averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 steals, while connecting on 58 three-pointers, which earned her All-County honors along with First Team All-Region. Furthermore, as Schulte begins her senior year, she already is seventh on the school's all-time scoring list.
Schulte also played three seasons for the AAU squad the Georgia Pistols where she won the Boo Williams Tournament in consecutive seasons and made it to the semifinals at Nike Nationals in 2014. A four-star recruit by Prospects Nation, Schulte is ranked 16th in the country for her position and was given an overall grade of 90 by ESPN.
"Meredith continues to improve her game," Stockton explained. "She has grown from being primarily a long range shooter to a complete player. Last summer, she played against some of the best players in the nation and excelled."
A 5-11 wing from Powder Springs, Georgia, Tene Thompson was a four year letter-winner in basketball and three-year letter-winner in track at Hillgrove High School, winning the county championship in the high jump in 2013. Thompson also played AAU ball for Peak Performance.
Tene excelled from the get-go in basketball, making varsity as a freshman and playing in the 2012 6A State Basketball Championship game. Last season, Thompson was named All-Region and selected as a junior All-Star, all while taking her squad to the Sweet 16 where she tallied a season best 29 points. This past May, Thompson was one of 12 players from her home state to be invited to attend the USA Basketball Women's U17 World Championship Team Trials.
"Tene is a great athlete who has a tremendous upside," Stockton added. "We love her ability to rebound and defend. Tene is the type of player who can create turnovers and convert on the other end."
Daughter of former Clemson standout and NBA player Horace Wyatt, Harlyn also received First Team All-Region and Second Team All-Metro honors while being selected to participate in the 2014 Georgia North-South All-Star Game. She spent three seasons with the Georgia Pistols and then one season with WT Celtics. The Georgia native is expected to see time at both the four and five positions with the Green Wave.
With the future looking bright, the current Green Wave squad looks to keep the positive momentum rolling this Friday, Nov. 14, for their season opener against Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m. CT inside Devlin Fieldhouse. The first 1,000 fans will receive free T-shirts for the planned 'White Out' and the always entertaining 610 Stompers will be performing at half.
For tickets to that game, as well as future Green Wave events, contact the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office at 504-861-WAVE (9283), via the internet at TulaneGreenWave.com, or in person at the Wilson Center on Ben Weiner Drive. Both single game and season tickets are on sale now, with the latter starting as low as $50.
