NEW ORLEANS - The 62nd-ranked Tulane men's tennis team earned a come-from-behind, 4-3, victory over visiting BYU in a dual match on Monday afternoon at the Pepsi City Park Tennis Center.
BYU (2-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point, but the Green Wave (3-0) rattled off three straight wins in singles to secure the win and remain unbeaten during the young spring season.
"A great result and a great come back by our guys today," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "BYU has a very solid team and pushed us to the wire. After losing the doubles point it was nice to see our guys bounce back and get a great start in singles. It was a great team effort to have such a big turn around and go up 4-2 for the victory."
Sophomore Chi-Shan Jao picked up the clinching win with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, victory over BYU's Jacob Sullivan on court five. Fellow sophomore Sebastian Rey claimed the first singles point of the match with a, 6-1, 6-1, win over Andrey Goryachkov on court three.
Freshman Constantin Schmitz gathered the second point of the match for Tulane with a, 7-5, 6-0, decision over Jeremy Bourgeois on court four, while junior Dominik Koepfer, the ninth-ranked singles player in the nation, claimed a, 6-3, 6-4, win on court one over Francis Sargeant to nab the third straight win for the Green Wave.
The Green Wave will return to the courts on Saturday at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Waco, Texas. Tulane will face host Baylor on Saturday and then play with Drake or Miami on Sunday.
