NEW ORLEANS - Senior Silvia Garces stroked a 3-under 69 on the final day of play, giving her a 211 total and a tie for fourth place, while the Green Wave combined for a 17-over 881 total, taking an 11th place finish at the Windy City Classic at the Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill.
Garces had her best round of the tournament today, logging four birdies versus only one bogey through her 18 holes today. She finished at 3-under on the day, giving her an overall tournament score of 5-under. Her great round today kept her tied for fourth place
Senior Emily Penttila chalked up a 1-under performance on the day, thanks to several early birdies on the course. Penttila finished at 2-over overall with a tie for 34th place. Freshman Sofia Goicoechea came into the clubhouse with an 8-over total on the day, placing her in a tie for 64th place and an 11-over finish.
Senior Madison Opfer recorded a 4-over 76 in her final round, finishing tied for 59th place with a 9-over result.
Junior Belen Goicoechea carded an 8-over 80 performance in her final round, putting her in a tie for 72nd place with a 15-over finish to the tournament.
“I am really proud of Silvia’s efforts these past two days,” Tulane head coach Lorne Don said. “She played 54 holes of fantastic golf, and a fourth place finish in this field is very similar to her ninth place finish at NCAA's last spring. Emily also had another solid week, making it three great tournaments to start her fall season.”
“As a team, it was not the result we were hoping to achieve. We need to find the consistency from the bottom of our line-up in order to compete in tournaments of this magnitude. We have a few weeks until our next event, and will look to focus on the areas that need improvement.” Don added.
Georgia, tournament host Northwestern and Arizona each tied for first and were crowned tri-champions, all finishing with a 1-stroke lead over Arizona State, who placed fourth
Georgia’s Bailey Tardy took home individual medalist honors, finishing with 5-under 67 final round to seal the victory.
