NEW ORLEANS - With October officially in the books, the American Athletic Conference took time on Monday morning to look back and ultimately chose Tulane men's tennis senior Dominik Koepfer as its Player of the Month. Koepfer produced a career best runner-up finish at the ITA All-American Championships in October, while also reaching the quarterfinal round in doubles alongside partner Chi-Shan Jao.
In singles, the Germany native knocked off the No. 22, No. 25, No. 38 and No. 51 preseason ranked players in the country on his path to becoming the first Green Wave player to reach the final at the All-American Championships. In fact, just Koepfer and eventual winner Thai-Son Kwiatkowski of Virginia are the only two players in NCAA Division-I men's tennis to reach at least the quarterfinals at four of the past five major collegiate national championships.
With Koepfer's five singles victories at the tournament, the senior also claimed sole third place all-time in Tulane's record book with 78 career singles wins, surpassing Dennis Lundberg's 76 career wins.
Meanwhile, over in doubles, Koepfer and Jao won three straight in qualifying to reach the main draw, where they proceeded to knock off the No. 16 and No. 37 ranked doubles teams to advance to the quarterfinals. The duo are 5-1 in doubles this fall.
Finally, Koepfer's run has automatically qualified him for the ITA National Indoor Championships starting Nov. 12 in New York.
