Booras Inks Two to 2016 Signing Class
Nov 24, 2015 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - After wrapping a very successful fall campaign which saw the Tulane men's tennis program crown a national singles champion in Dominik Koepfer, Green Wave head coach Mark Booras kept the momentum rolling with the announcement of class of 2016 signees Jonathan Star and Tim Ruetzel.
"We are very excited about this year's signing class," Booras stated. "All of these guys will have an immediate impact on our lineup and help us reach our goals."
Star is a five-star recruit out of Calabasas, California, who ranks 75th nationally in his class and 21st in the state of California. In October, Star won three straight to reach the Round of 16 at The Orange Country/J.P. Yamasaki Junior Tournament and also reached the doubles final at the USTA National Selection Tournament. At the high school level, Star has led Viewpoint School to multiple league championships since his freshman year.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, is Ruetzel, who will follow Dominik Koepfer's and Constantin Schmitz's example of arriving to Tulane from Germany. Ruetzel has been a top-10 junior in Germany, where he most notably reached the finals of his country's national championship last year.
"Jonathan and Tim both have solid foundations and a ton of upside," Booras explained. "Just what we were looking for. Both bring great experience, one from this side of the pond and one from the other side. Jonathan is a five star recruit who will be a blue chip recruit when he ages up at the end of this year, while Tim has been a top-10 junior in Germany, so altogether, another great signing class for Tulane men's tennis."
