Dec 7, 2015 | Men's Tennis

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane men's tennis senior standout Dominik Koepfer reeled in another honor on Monday morning, being named the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for November. The monthly award-winners are chosen in voting by the Greater New Orleans Sports Award Selection Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Koepfer becomes the first Tulane athlete in 2015 to win the award and first since Track & Field's Merritt Van Meter won it back in January of 2014.
On November 15, Koepfer created Tulane history, becoming the first player in program history to win a National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, and the first since Jose Aguero in 1955 to win a national tournament singles championship. Koepfer's path to a national title went through No. 29 Chris Diaz of Ohio State, Skander Mansouri of Wake Forest, No. 12 Jared Hiltzik of Illinois, No. 70 Joao Monteiro of Virginia Tech and No. 22 Andre Goransson.
Koepfer was also the first player since Virginia's Mitchell Frank in 2011, to make back-to-back finals at the All-American Championships and National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. The Germany native wrapped a 12-2 fall campaign and will now await to see where he lands in the top-10 singles rankings come Jan. 5, 2016.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
