NEW ORLEANS -- With a successful Tulane women's basketball season in the books it's easy to already look ahead to the 2015-16 season. This past season's Green Wave squad, who made their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance, weren't the only one to record a successful year, as Tulane's five incoming freshmen all impressed in their respective high school senior seasons.
"I'm very excited about the group coming in," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton said. "They've had great years as seniors and soon they'll know what it's like to go up against the very best in our league. We'll have more size than we've had in many years and more scoring with several recording over 1,000 points in their career. They're going to bring that habit and instinct for winning into the program."
Taylor Emery, a 5-10 guard from Tampa, was the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches, the Tampa Bay Times and the Hillsborough County Player of the Year, along with being a McDonald's All-American candidate. Emery scored 1,059 points in her senior season, setting a new state record for high school women's basketball in Florida.
In fact, her 36.5 scoring average ranked No. 1 in Florida and No. 2 in the entire country, which helped Freedom High to reach the Regional finals. After four seasons, Emery amassed 2,689 career points which shattered the Hillborough County record.
Ksenija Madzarevic, a 6-6 post, was also a McDonald's All-American candidate. Madzarevic, who attended Rabun Gap, was All-Conference for the second year in a row after averaging 6.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks. Furthermore, Madzarevic was selected to play in the North Georgia All-Star Classic along with the NC Private School All-Star game.
Meredith Schulte, 6-0 guard from Braselton, Georgia, was the 2015 Region 7A Player of the Year after leading Mill Creek High School in points (16.9 ppg) and rebounds (7.0). A Naismith Third All-Metro Team selection, Schulte finished third in school history with 1,172 career points, second in career rebounds, and was the first in school history to achieve a triple-double.
A 5-11 wing from Powder Springs, Georgia, Tene Thompson's most memorable outing came back in December, when she logged her first career double-double against the back-to-back state champions and fifth nationally ranked McEachern High School. Thompson reeled in 14 rebounds along with a career best 30 points in said game.
Thompson, a First Team All-Region selection, was recognized by the Naismith committee with All-Metro Honorable Mention honors and was also asked to participate in the GHCA North-South Senior All-Star game.
Last but certainly not least is Harlyn Wyatt, 6-3 forward who won the 2015 Naismith Award after leading her Mays Lady Raiders to a Georgia 6A State runner-up finish and 27-3 record. It marked their first championship game since 2003.
Wyatt, who averaged 16 points and eight rebounds in her senior year, ranked as the No. 2 post in the state of Georgia in 2015. A 1,000-point club member, Wyatt was a First Team All-Region nominee and was also selected for the GACA Senior All-Star game.
