
Tulane Golf Opens NCAA Regional Play on Thursday

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's 26th-ranked golfers will begin their postseason run this week at the 2015 NCAA Regional at the Warren Golf Course (par 72/6,301 yards) on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Ind.
The NCAA Regionals will take place May 7-9 at four sites around the nation and the low six teams and low three individuals (not on those teams) from each of the four regionals will advance to the NCAA Women's Golf Championships, May 22-27, at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
Tulane will play with No. 30 Notre Dame and No. 33 Purdue during the opening round and the groups will begin from the first tee at 7 a.m. CST/8 a.m. EST. The Green Wave line-up consists of senior Gemma Dryburgh, juniors Silvia Garces, Madison Opfer and Emily Penttila and sophomore Belen Goicoechea.
The NCAA Region in South Bend features 18 teams and six individuals and includes six Top-25 squads and 12 total schools are ranked among the nation's Top-50.
The Green Wave are making their 12th NCAA Regional appearance and will participate in postseason action at the Warren Golf Course for the second time in four years after playing there in the 2011 NCAA Regional round.
"We have put together several good weeks of focused practices and we are looking forward to competing at this week's regional," Tulane head coach Lorne Don said. "Obviously, these next three days are a very important stretch for us and we need to focus on each day and each hole. We have a veteran group of golfers and each of them has postseason experience and know what it takes to succeed in regional play."
The 2015 NCAA Championships will feature a new format for the national title rounds. The 2015 finals format will consist of three days (54 holes) of stroke play for all, Friday through Sunday. After Monday, the top eight teams advance to the match-play team championship, and the 72-hole individual national champion will be determined.
The last three days of will be televised live by the Golf Channel. The team national champions will be determined by a match-play format consisting of quarterfinals and semifinals played on Tuesday, followed by the finals on Wednesday.
