SKILLMAN, N.J. -- On Thursday morning, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2015 All-America Teams for Division-I men's tennis, as Tulane's Dominik Koepfer made the prestigious list for the first time. Koepfer matched two qualifications for All-America status after earning a top-16 seed at the NCAA Singles Championships and finishing within the final top-20 singles rankings at No. 18.
"What a great year Dominik had," Tulane head coach Mark Booras. He's worked so hard all three years he's been here and that progression was even more on display when he jumped from 98 to the country to as high as No. 5. His stats this year were tremendous, suffering just three dual losses at the No. 1 spot. Dominik has developed in so many ways, it's just great to watch him grow."
Koepfer became the 10th different player in program history to be bestowed All-American status and was the 15th overall honor. In addition, the Germany native was just the third ever singles All-American and first since Michael Kogan in 2004.
The national accolade acts as a perfect cap for a career junior campaign in which Koepfer went 28-7 overall, 16-3 in dual play, and 13-7 against ranked opposition. An American Athletic All-Conference selection and the conference's NCAA automatic qualifier, Koepfer reached the round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championships.
Finally, All-America honors wasn't the only major accolade Koepfer reeled in at the end of the 2015 season, also receiving the ITA Southern Region Player to Watch award and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's Louisiana Player of the Year.
