ITA SOUTHERN REGIONAL DRAWS
NEW ORLEANS – The nine student-athletes who comprise the Tulane men's tennis squad will look to make an impact in Auburn, Alabama, this weekend, as the Green Wave compete in the fall staple known as the ITA Southern Regional. The four-day free event gets under way Friday morning at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, hosted by Auburn University.
The Southern Regional will consist of a singles draw of 128 participants, while the doubles draw will witness 32 teams duke it out for the title. Matches on the main six outdoor courts will be live-streamed using PlaySight and can be accessed via www.AuburnTigers.com.
"The big goal for this tournament is to win it and have someone break through and advance to the national indoor championships," Tulane head coach Mark Booras stated. "Based on last year's results we had a couple of guys reach the quarters and semis so that was a good tournament for us. We have everyone back from that tournament so we feel like everyone has developed a little bit more and should be able to take the next step."
The singles and doubles champions will advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, in November. Tulane fans might remember this tournament very well, for one year ago it was 2016 graduate Dominik Koepfer who claimed the national indoor title.
