ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 18 Tulane bowling is set to kick off the 2016-17 season this weekend at the Wildcat Invitational. The three-day event, hosted by Bethune-Cookman, will open on Friday, October 21 and run through Sunday, October 23.
Of the 14 teams competing in this weekend's event, 10 were ranked in the top-25 of the 2016-17 NTCA Preseason Poll. Tulane's competition will include No. 1 Nebraska, No. 2 Stephen F. Austin, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 6 Sam Houston State, No. 8 North Carolina A&T, No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 11 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 16 Monmouth, and No. 22 Prairie View A&M. The field will also include host Bethune-Cookman, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, and Florida A&M.
The competition will begin on Friday, with the teams competing in 5x4 baker matches. In the baker format, five-person teams bowl for one score. Each individual gets the chance to bowl two of the ten frames. The first bowler will bowl frames one and six, the second bowler will bowl frames two and seven, and so on.
The competition continues on Saturday, with the teams competing in traditional matches. In the traditional format, each bowler on the five-person team will bowl ten frames for an individual score. The individual scores are then summed together to get the team's overall score.
The competition will wrap-up on Sunday, with the teams competing in bracket matches. In the bracket format, teams compete in a best 4-of-7 baker tournament. Seeding for the tournament is determined by the teams' performances on Friday and Saturday.
The Green Wave will look to make a splash at the first tournament of the season, after ending last year with a 53-58 record.
