SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Tulane women's golf finished its fall schedule in fine fashion, placing 10th at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational played at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course.
The Green Wave were among the top 10 teams over all three rounds and posted a 889 (+25) to cap off a busy fall competing against many of the best programs in the country.
Senior Belen Goicoechea led the way for Tulane with back-to-back rounds of -1 (71) to open the tournament and finished tied for 20th with a three-round score of 218 (+2). In each of the first two rounds, she was even par through nine holes and then holed three birdies on the back nine to finish one stroke under par.Â
Redshirt freshman Elise Genoux and freshman Haydyn Gibson matched each other with final-round -1 (71) to close the fall on a high point. Genoux and Gibson each started the final round on fire with three birdies and one bogey on the front nine and played solid over the back nine to end the day under par.Â
"Today was a great way to finish our fall season," said head coach Lorne Don. "To have Belen with such a strong tournament and our two freshmen, Elise and Haydyn, both shooting under par, it really gives us some positive momentum heading into our offseason and the spring. We learned a lot about our young team this fall and we will look to improve in the areas we need to moving forward."
The Green Wave are back in action after the New Year on Feb. 3-5 at the UCF Challenge before hosting the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, set for Feb. 19-21 at English Turn Golf & Country Club.
