QUOTE
"This weekend is important because it marks the beginning of the second round of conference play, so it is a great opportunity for us to make a big statement. For the first time in over a month, we have all of our starters healthy and in the lineup. We beat Tulsa in five sets the first round and expect another tough match. SMU is in first place and we went to five with them a few weeks ago. We have gained respect within the conference, but now is the time to close out matches."
--Tulane head coach Jim Barnes
LAST TIME OUT
The Green Wave closed out the first round of conference play with a 1-1 record on the road last weekend. Tulane defeated the Cougars in Houston on Wednesday by a score of 3-1, but dropped a close Sunday contest on Sunday at Memphis. In Sunday's match, junior right-side hitter Sarah Ray recorded a career-high 36 kills, good for the no. 2 spot in the Tulane record book and the second-highest kill total in American Athletic Conference history.
Tulsa, who went 2-8 in the first round of conference play, dropped both road games last weekend. The Golden Hurricane fell 0-3 to UCF on Friday night in Orlando before losing 1-3 to USF in Tampa on Sunday afternoon.
SMU currently leads the conference with a 9-1 record through the first ten games. Last weekend, the Mustangs extended their winning streak to four with 3-1 and 3-0 victories over USF and UCF, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
Tulane currently leads the series with Tulsa 14-13 after winning a five-set thriller at home on Oct. 2. The Green Wave are 3-7 on the Golden Hurricane's home court.
The Green Wave is also ahead of SMU in the all-time series with a 13-10 record, leading the Mustangs 6-5 in Dallas. In their last meeting, SMU defeated Tulane 3-2 in New Orleans after the Green Wave opened the match with a 2-0 lead.
