Both Green Wave doubles teams capture titles
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Tulane women's tennis team capped off a stellar tournament at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic on Saturday, departing the University of Alabama with three titles to their name. Both Green Wave doubles pairings won three-straight over the weekend to win their respective draws, while junior Sade Atkinson won three straight in singles to claim the Nancy Pate Draw.
"I'm incredibly happy with going 13-3 and bringing home three championships this weekend," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk stated. "All of these results are indicative of the hard work we have been putting in, along with being on the same page as a team."
Atkinson teamed with Sofia Kurtz in the Lori Smith Doubles Draw, as the duo dispatched Mississippi State's Rentouli/Kelly, 8-1, before claiming the title with an 8-6 win over Karaky/Rodriguez of Troy.
The first-time pairing of Kyla Klier and Christina Sisti also paid off, as the twosome earned an 8-5 win in the semis before cruising to an 8-1 victory in the final over Siezer/Ferrauti of Troy.
Meanwhile, in other singles action, Sisti came one win shy of earning a singles title of her own, falling to Mississippi State's Sara Lizariturry, 6-4, 7-5
"In fact, the two doubles championships are especially great since these are two new teams that haven't played together before, so the cohesion and communication coupled with solid tactical preparation really reiterates that we are growing as a team," Sisk added. "This has been a fun weekend for us as we really begin to let it sink in that we are a talented team and are able to compete with anyone."
Up next, the Green Wave hit the road to Baton Rouge for their final fall tournament in the LSU Invitational, starting Nov. 11.
