Men’s Tennis Ends Time at ITA All American Championships

Schmitz, Jao and Rey come up short in qualifying

ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulane men's tennis' time at the ITA All-American Championships was abruptly cut short on Monday in the first round of qualifying, as Constantin Schmitz and Sebastian Rey lost their opening singles matches in straight sets. In addition, the No. 4 seeded doubles pairing of Schmitz and Chi-Shan Jao were upset in the first round by North Florida's Jack Findel-Hawkins/Lass Muscheites, 6-2, 6-2.

Schmitz, who achieved a career best No. 66 singles national ranking to start the season, was bested by No. 95 Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech, 6-2, 6-1. In addition, Rey had jumped on his opponent early, claiming the first set 7-6(1), but couldn't sustain the momentum against Jordi Arconada of Texas A&M, losing 6-3, 6-4, in the final two sets.

Up next for the Wave is the ITA Southern Regional, taking place Oct. 14-17 in Auburn, Alabama.
