Singles Draw | Niceville Futures Central
NICEVILLE, Fla. – Tulane men's tennis junior Constantin Schmitz is on the brink of winning his first career pro tournament after reaching the finals of the Niceville Futures event on Saturday. Schmitz, who won three straight in qualifying to advance to the main draw of 32, kept his hot streak alive, notching four more consecutive wins to reach the pro tournament final, where he'll square off against No. 2 seed Mina Gianna of France, who currently ranks No. 417 in the world.
"Tremendous competing again by Connie today," Tulane head coach Mark Booras stated. "It's great to see him putting some more pieces of the puzzle together this week with his physical and mental game. It's quite a treat to watch him compete at this level against some of the top players in the world."
In the second round of the main draw, Schmitz toppled Felix Auger-Alliassime of Canada, 6-0, 6-2. Auger-Alliassime was the 2016 US Open Junior Champ and ITF Junior No. 3 ranked player in the world. In the quarters, Schmitz knocked off No. 1 seed and No. 332 world ranked Maxime Chazal of France, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Then the junior booked his ticket to the final with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(6) thriller against No. 3 seed and No. 446 world ranked Jose Statham of New Zealand.
