Women's Tennis Wraps Fall Slate After LSU Classic Weekend
Nov 13, 2016 | Women's Tennis
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Tulane women's tennis team wrapped up its final tournament of the fall season this weekend, competing against Princton, Rice and host LSU in the three-day Tiger Classic. The Green Wave competed in a hidden dual format in which they ultimately played doubles and singles against all three teams by weekend's end.
"When I scheduled this LSU hidden dual invite as our last tournament for the fall, I did so for two reasons," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk explained. "The first reason was to end our season with a dual format as that is the format we play in the spring. I really wanted see how we compete as a team. The second reason was I wanted three teams inside the Top 40 national rankings so we could see where we stand with those caliber of programs. Â To say I'm elated would be an understatement. We had chances to take the doubles point from two of those teams, and lost several three set matches by playing a little tentative in certain situations. Â I spent a good deal of time going over the results and I honestly wasn't shocked at how well we did."
Â
The doubles pairing of Kyla Klier and Christina Sisti highlighted day one action, edging past Princton's Vives/McKee, 7-5. In day two, freshman Isabelle Entenza picked up her first collegiate win via doubles alongside Elena Muller, dispatching Rice's Ip/Ho, 7-5. Klier also got a big win in day two, earning a 6-1, 1-6, 7-6(6) thriller against Princeton's Krems.
Â
In day three action, both Sisti and Sofia Kurtz got their best of their LSU opponents in singles, picking up three-set wins for the Wave.
"At the end of the tournament we had a meeting and the girls finally realized how good we actually are," Sisk added. "We didn't roll over this weekend. We battled and made a statement. I'm proud of this team. They are working hard and they want more. As a coach, that's all I can ask for. Â We all agreed we are ready for the spring. We are excited. This was the perfect ending to our fall and we are now more determined than ever. This spring will definitely be fun."
Â
Up next, the Olive and Blue wait for Jan. 18 to kick off its spring dual season against UNO and McNeese State.
