NEW ORLEANS – The 2017 edition of the Tulane women's tennis team started the spring season off on the right foot, sweeping its Wednesday doubleheader by knocking off McNeese State, 4-1, followed by a 4-0 win vs UNO. Both Naz Karagoz and Elena Muller recorded straight-set victories in both their singles matches today, while two different freshmen in Christina Sisti and Isabelle Entenza played the roles of clincher.
Â
"The biggest thing I saw was a lot of comradery and that's something we've discussed all year, so it was nice to see everybody working on the same page and together as a unit," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk stated. "Obviously it's nice to get two wins. Saw some nerves out there today and that's to be expected with the first match, but overall I thought we executed very well under pressure and I definitely think it's moving in the right direction."
Â
Muller shone bright on court four in the season opening double-header, first winning 6-0, 6-1 vs McNeese's Charoline Erlandsson, before cruising against UNO's Brittany Johnson, 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, Karagoz, kicking off the year on court one, followed close behind in terms of singles dominance, winning by a combined margin of 25-7.
Â
In her dual season debut, Sisti made it a memorable one, clinching the opener with a 6-3, 6-4 win over McNeese's Vivien Borbely. Then in the second match, Entenza made the most of her debut by defeating UNO's Yasmine Rashad, 6-4, 6-2.
Â
Lastly, Wave cruised in doubles as well, taking the early 1-0 advantage in both match-ups. Both pairings of Sade Atkinson/Sofia Kurtz and Christina Sisti/Kyla Klier notched 2-0 days.Â
Â
Up next, Tulane will hit the road to Belmont University on Friday, Jan. 20, at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a showdown at Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at 9 a.m.
