Track & Field Reveals 2016-17 Schedule

NEW ORLEANS ā With the indoor season right around the corner, Tulane's track and field program has released its 2016-17 slate, director of track and field and cross country Eric Peterson announced this week. In the upcoming season, Peterson's student-athletes will match up against some local competition while also gaining exposure on the national stage with a handful of prestigious meets throughout the country.
This year's schedule features seven regular-season indoor meets as well as the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships and the NCAA Indoor Championships, while the outdoor slate includes twelve regular-season contests and four postseason weekends.
The indoor season opens up on Friday, Dec. 2 with the Green Wave's sixth consecutive trip to the BSC Panther Icebreaker in Birmingham, Alabama. Much like last year, Tulane will then head west to Baton Rouge for the LSU Purple Tiger on Friday, Jan. 6, followed by the team's second of four trips to Birmingham with the UAB Invite on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The women will then travel north on two consecutive weekends for a pair of meets on the national stage, with the Indiana University Relays in Bloomington Jan. 27-28 and the Armory TrackĀ Invitational in New York City Feb. 3-4.
The indoor season wraps up with the Samford Invitational on Feb. 10 and the LSU Twilight on Feb. 17. Postseason action will take place on Feb. 24-25 at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, followed by the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas March 10-11.
Tulane opens up the outdoor season as the host institution of the Early Bird Twilight on Friday, March 3. The second meet of the year will also take place close to home, as the Green Wave travel to the Louisiana Classics hosted by UL-LafayetteĀ on March 17. Tulane closes out the month of March with two split-squad road meets in Rice's Victor Lopez Invitational in Houston and the Raleigh Relays on March 24-25.
The Green Wave remain on the road the next weekend, heading to Gainesville for the Florida Relays March 31-April 1 before making another trip to Houston for the Houston Alumni Invitational on Saturday, April 8.
Another split-squad trip is in store for Tulane the weekend of April 13, as the team heads to Torrance, Calif. for the Mt. Sac Invitational and the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile. On April 22, the Green Wave will make one final drive up to Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold.
The runners will once again head to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Thursday, April 27 while the field athletes head to the Lone Star State for the Longhorn Invitational in Austin.
The Green Wave close out the regular season on Saturday, May 5 with one final meet at the Tom Tellez Invitational in Houston.
Postseason competition begins May 12-14 with the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Houston, with the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Lexington, Kentucky just two weeks later.
