Green Wave split off for final spring season prep
NICEVILLE FUTURES TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team will compete in its final tournaments of the fall season this weekend when they split off into two separate events. The upperclassmen trio of Constantin Schmitz, Sebastian Rey and Chi-Shan Jao, along with Tyler Schick and Luis Erlenbusch, will see how far they can advance at the Niceville Futures Tournament in Florida, while Tim Ruetzel, Jonathan Star, Eric Wagner and Chase Schupp head to Birmingham for the CCB Invitational.
Schmitz, Rey, Jao, Schick and Erlenbusch will all have to start in the qualifying round beginning on Friday. Schmitz will look to build upon his last Niceville trip one year ago, when he qualified for the main draw and then bested Deiton Baughman, earning him his first career ATP Point. This year, Schmitz is the No. 7 seed in the qualifying round and awaits the winner of Patrick Shaw vs. Ran Derei.
In addition, Jao battles Jordan Nickerson in first round action, while Schick looks to advance past Nicholas Springer. Lastly, Erlenbusch battles Daffra Sanon from France in other first round competition, while Rey earned a first round bye.
For the CCB Collegiate Invitational, nine different teams will be represented: UAB, Eastern Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Troy, Lipscomb, South Alabama, Louisville, Tulane and host Samford. Play begins with doubles each day at 9 a.m. CT, followed by singles. Finally, the tournament is being held at the Country Club of Birmingham.
