Indoor Track & Field Debuts Five Freshmen at BSC Panther Icebreaker

BIRMINGHAM – The women of Tulane's indoor track team opened up the 2016-17 season on Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama, recording four top-three finishes in what would be the first ever collegiate meet for five members of the Green Wave squad. Friday's meet also marked the sixth consecutive year the indoor team would open up the season at the BSC Panther Icebreaker.

BSC Panther Icebreaker Highlights

Tulane landed a fourth-place team effort on the day with 38 total points, finishing behind Georgia State (73 points), Alabama State (70 points) and Georgia Tech (40 points). The Green Wave shined in the pole vault, sweeping places two through seven and finishing only behind an unattached competitor. Sophomores Rebekah Markel and Rose Brutkiewicz would notch personal bests, each with marks of 3.85m, while freshman Parish Kitto made her Tulane debut in the event.

Redshirt senior Mikayla Sonneborn came away with a third-place finish in the one mile race on her time of 5:06.04, while senior Taylor Potts would close out the night with a similar bronze-medal effort in the shot put (14.65m).

The Green Wave take the next four weekends off for winter break, reconvening for the LSU Purple Tiger on Friday, Jan. 6 in Baton Rouge.
