The duo to compete in the 400 meter dash
NEW ORLEANS – Two Tulane track and field athletes in Lilla McMillan and Jasmine Blocker look to compete at the highest level of the sport this summer, as the duo will take part in the U.S. Olympic Trials on Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, for a spot on the United States Olympic Squad that will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August.
The pair will both compete in the 400 meter dash at 7:45 p.m. CT, and the meet will be televised on NBC. McMillan will also compete in the 200 meter dash on July 8.
Blocker was named a First Team All-American by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for her performance in the 400 meter at the NCAA Outdoor National as she ran a 53.14 in the event to place seventh overall. For finishing in the top-eight at the national meet, Blocker became the first Tulane sprinter to earn All-American status during both the indoor and outdoor season in the same season since Gloria Asumnu did so in 2007.
Blocker ran a personal-best time of 51.66 in the 400 meters on the year, placing second at The American Outdoor Track and Field Championships for a silver medal.
McMillan claimed the gold medal at The American Outdoor Championships in the 400 meter dash with a personal-best time of 51.38 that doubles as the Tulane school record. The Mill Valley, California, native competed at the NCAA East Regionals in the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash and 4 x 400 meter relay.
Like Blocker, McMillan was an All-American during the indoor season in the 400 meter dash, claiming second-team honors.
