Women's Tennis Nabs Third Straight ITA Academic Award

Katz, Klier, Kurtz & Maltby named ITA Scholar-Athletes
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2016 Academic Awards on Thursday, as more than 4,200 scholar-athletes were recognized across all divisions. Tulane women's tennis was well represented amongst the group, landing four student-athletes on the list: Jacqui Katz, Kyla Klier, Sofia Kurtz and Meredith Maltby. In addition, for the third straight year, the Green Wave earned the prestigious ITA Academic Award as well, garnering a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or higher.
Now, in order to earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete award a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters.
Katz (Communications Major) and Maltby (English/Linguistics) exemplified the term student-athlete, achieving scholar-athlete status all four years at Tulane. Meanwhile, it marked the second straight year for rising senior Klier (Communications) and the first for rising sophomore Kurtz (Business).
