Summer update for recent Tulane tennis grad
NEW ORLEANS – After a record setting senior season with the Tulane men's tennis team, recent graduate and Germany native Dominik Koepfer remained in the United States to pursue his pro-tennis career. Starting without a single ATP-point to his name, Koepfer has already leapfrogged from a world ranking of 1,825 to 1,006 just a few months into his pro career.
This summer, Koepfer has competed in five USA Futures events, where he fought himself out of qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw in his first four tournaments. In the Tulsa Futures tournament in mid-June, Koepfer won four straight matches, including a victory against No. 642 Jared Hiltzik, to propel himself into the quarterfinal round.
A week later, Koepfer advanced one step further in his most impressive tournament to date, winning five straight to reach the semis. Along the way, Koepfer knocked off No. 221 Mitchell Krueger in a three-set battle, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3), followed by a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over No. 504 Takanyi Garanganga.
This past week, Koepfer was in Godfrey, Illinois, where he won three straight in qualifying before defeating No. 569 Tigre Hank of Mexico in the main draw, concluding his run in the Round of 16.
Koepfer finished second all-time at Tulane in career singles wins with 103, was a two-time NCAA All-American and the 2015 ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Champion.
