
Baseball’s Williams, T&F’s McMillan Earn AAC Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards

Awards given to top student-athlete based on academic, athletic and volunteer service in each sport
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tulane baseball's Hunter Williams and recently-graduated track and field sprinter Lilla McMillan were named recipients of the 2015-16 American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award, announced Commissioner Mike Aresco on Wednesday.
The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards are given to a student-athlete in each American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades and performances, and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible.
Williams helped lead the Green Wave to a 41-21 record, as well as a spot in the NCAA Oxford Regional final, hitting .294 on the season with 20 runs, 10 doubles, nine home runs and 30 RBI despite missing a significant portion of the season with an injury. The native of West Monroe, Louisiana, was named the to the NCAA Oxford All-Regional Team after hitting .571 (8-for-14) with a double, a triple, three home runs and five RBI.
Williams has maintained a 4.00 cumulative GPA since arriving at Tulane. Williams shared the baseball award with Houston's Justin Montemayor.
McMillan earned the award for the indoor track and field season. The native of Mill Valley, California, was named the Female Athlete of the Meet during the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship. McMillan won the gold medal in the 400 meter dash at the conference tournament, as well as bronze medal in the 200 meter dash. Her mark of 52.34 in the 400 meter dash set a new school record. McMillan competed in the 400 meter dash at the NCAA Indoor National Championships, running a 53.46 for Second Team All-American honors.
McMillan posted a cumulative GPA of 3.359.
