Aug 19, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – With just one week remaining until the start of the 2016 season, head coach Jim Barnes and his Tulane volleyball squad are set to host their first annual Olive and Blue scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 4:00 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
"After almost two weeks of practices, the team is looking forward to our Olive and Blue scrimmage," Barnes said. "It's a great opportunity for our fans to get their first look at all of our players on the court in the Fieldhouse. We are going to have a big year so I hope to see a lot of fans supporting our Green Wave volleyball team."
The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening one hour before first serve. Following the scrimmage, the Tulane team will be available in the lobby autographing mini volleyballs for fans and taking pictures.
The Olive and Blue scrimmage will provide fans with a first glimpse at Barnes' inaugural Tulane volleyball team. This year's squad features nine returning players, including senior outside/right-side hitter Tea Juric, who received preseason all-conference honors last week. The Green Wave also welcome six newcomers to the team for the largest incoming class since 2013.
The Green Wave kick off the regular season on Friday, Aug. 26 at the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss. with a match against Grambling State at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, Tulane will also face off with Barnes' alma mater, McNeese State, and former Conference USA rival Southern Miss.
Tulane opens up at home the following weekend with the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tournament Sept. 2-3 and will travel to two additional non-conference tournaments at Clemson and Florida Atlantic before opening up American conference play Sept. 23 at Temple.
