Badie racked up 175 All-Purpose Yards
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Reshirt junior running back Sherman Badie was named American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Tulane's 66-21 victory over Southern.
Badie received a first-quarter kickoff from the Green Wave's own 14-yard line and put on a burst of speed to motor 86 yards for a touchdown, completing the trifecta as Tulane scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams within the first 13 minutes of the team's home opener at Yulman Stadium. Badie had 175 all-purpose yards, including 135 on kickoff returns. He averaged 33.8 yards on four kickoff returns to go with 40 rushing yards as the Green Wave topped the 60-point mark for the first time since 1998.
His kickoff return for a touchdown was the first for the Green Wave since Jeremy Williams ran a kickoff back 88 yards for a touchdown vs. UTEP on Nov. 7, 2009. It was Badie's first kickoff return for a touchdown and the longest kickoff return of his career.
Tulane is back in action this Saturday in its conference opener vs. Navy. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on American Sports Network and ESPN3.
