NEW ORLEANS – Six members of the Tulane men's tennis team are on their way to Houston on Thursday night to prepare to compete in the Rice Invitational this weekend. The three-day event is broken up into three singles draws consisting of 16 competitors each and three doubles draws consisting of eight teams each. Representing the Green Wave at the tournament will be sophomores Eric Wagner and Tyler Schick and freshmen Jonathan Star, Chase Schupp, Tim Ruetzel and Luis Erlenbusch.
The Rice Invitational kicks off Friday at 9 a.m. CT with two rounds of singles matches and the opening round of doubles. Saturday will also begin at 9 a.m. and feature one round of singles and the closing two rounds of doubles matches. Lastly, Sunday's 9 a.m. start time will consist of the singles draws championship matches.
The Wave kicked off their fall campaign last weekend in Tuscaloosa, battling Memphis, Columbia and host Alabama in the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall. Ruetzel, Schick, Star and Wagner all emerged with winning singles records with 2-1 marks.
Green Wave fans can be on the lookout for Erlenbusch and Schick in singles draw A, Ruetzel and Star in draw B, and Wagner and Schupp in draw C.
In doubles, Schick and Erlenbusch are teaming together in draw A, while Ruetzel and Star partner together in draw B. Thus leaving Schupp and Wagner looking to claim the doubles draw C title.
