NEW ORLEANS – The (RV) Tulane men's tennis (2-0) will once again compete alongside the nation's best by participating in their third straight ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Green Wave were tabbed with the No. 2 seed at the Berkeley, California, Regional site, squaring off with No. 3 seed Pepperdine in first round action on Friday at 3 p.m. CT. If successful, the Olive and Blue will clash with either Cal Poly or host and fourth nationally ranked California on Saturday at 3 p.m. with a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on the line.
9th Annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend
In all, 60 teams will be competing across the country this weekend at 15 'regional' sites. The winners of the single-elimination event advance to next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Virginia serves as the host of this year's event and is thus exempt from competing in the Kick-Off Weekend. Last year, 13 of the 15 men's No. 1 seeds advanced to National Team Indoors.
Tulane Head Coach Mark Booras on ITA Kick-Off Weekend
"It's exciting to be a part of a tournament like this. We know what to expect from the high quality of teams in our draw. The big thing we have to do is take one match at a time. We know Pepperdine is tough, play with a lot of energy and is a well-coached team. We are excited about the opportunity to play out there."
Last Year at ITA Kick-Off Weekend
In the opening round, the Wave swept Pepperdine 4-0. Tulane won the doubles point then received singles victories from No. 1 Dominik Koepfer along with current members Sebastian Rey and Chi-Shan Jao.
In the title bout, Tulane fell just short in upsetting No. 8 USC, falling 4-3 to the Trojans. The Olive and Blue captured the doubles point and took a 2-1 lead thanks to Koepfer, but then couldn't sustain the momentum.
