Women's Tennis Completes Abbreviated Stay at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Tulane women's tennis team had its planned three-day schedule at the Samford Invitational cut in half, as the Green Wave wrapped up play Saturday afternoon due to weather impacts caused by Hurricane Nate.

DAY ONE
Tulane opened serve on its 2017 fall season Friday morning with a 3-3 combined record in doubles play, highlighted by consecutive wins by the duo of senior Sade Atkinson and Sofia Kurtz. Junior Elena Muller and sophomore Laura Fabrizi went 1-1 on the first day, including a 6-1 win over UAB.

In singles, the Green Wave was dominant after posting a 5-1 combined record, Atkinson, Kurtz and Muller earned three-set victories, while sophomore Christina Sisti and freshman Daniela La Fuente won in straight sets.

DAY TWO
As the storm moved closer to the coastline, the Green Wave was able to get three doubles matches in, but went 0-3 before withdrawing from the tournament and returning to New Orleans.

Tulane will compete again Oct. 19-23 at ITA Regionals, which will be held in Auburn, Ala.
